there was never an artist as promising as dmx was back in 1998. It's Dark & Hell Is Hot burst into the vaccum left by the deaths of biggie and tupac and many heralded dmx as the next gangsta rapper god. the quality of the album backed up most claims with the first single "Ruff Ryders' Anthem" getting significant airplay on the radio and on mtv. the people went wild. a new star was born.

BUT people were too quick to hail him as the next tupac. and what's that saying about what happens to a comedian when he gets rich? he ain't funny no more.

it wasnt just a sophomore jinx, it was a straight nosedive. his second album Flesh Of My Flesh-Blood Of My Blood came out a mere 7 months after his debut hit the shelves and word on the street was that he wrote all the material during those 'tweener months. every song on that album sucks. people lost interest. more crap followed. "And Then There Was X" and finally the aptly titled "Great Depression."

the only thing more striking than the garbage he put out after that first album is exactly how really good that first album was. repeat listenings even now, 5 years later, still do not disappoint. dmx even creates all sorts of characters, voices, stories, plots. one track even has dmx in a passionate prayer to god, where he pours out his heart in a semi-rap. phat beats, insightful lyrics.

disppointed, yeah. but 1 thoroughly solid album is 1 more than most artists.

and finally, a joke from alexham616:

Will Smith & Korean Guy At A Restaurant
One day Will Smith and his Korean friend went to a Korean restaurant.

The Korean guy ordered rice with kimchi chigae. Will Smith didn't know what to get, so he said to come back later. The Korean guy went to the bathroom after he ordered.

Then the waiter came to Will Smith and asked him what he would like to order. Will Smith said, "yea I want a bowl of rice."

The waiter then asked, "what would you like with that?" and Will Smith said, "yea...I want chigae with it" so when the friend got back he asked what Will Smith got with his bowl of rice and Will Smith said " gettin chigae with it"
